"Rollerball pens are pens which use ball point writing mechanisms with water-based liquid or gelled ink, as opposed to the oil-based viscous inks found in ballpoint pens. A fountain pen is a nib pen that contains an internal reservoir of water-based liquid ink and needs little or no pressure to write. Fountain Pens are often treated as luxury goods and sometimes as status symbols however they may also serve as an everyday writing instrument."

Inną metodą jest użycie tłoczka. Umieszczamy go w sekcji przedniej, zanurzamy stalówkę w wodzie i używając tłoczka nabieramy wody (tak samo jak nabiera się atrament).
